Measurements are made using two copper strips in the inner layers of the PCB. This way, the contacts are not directly exposed to moisture and do not oxidize. The temperature sensor is at the top above the soil. The entire sensor is sealed and protected from adverse weather conditions. It will last for years in the ground.
